Dairy farms are known for keeping large amounts of explosives around that could kill their entire herd of 18,000 cattle /sarc

Could be that too. The video I saw indicates many tons of fuel was available for combustion. Methane gas and poop dust would be substantial reservoir of explosive fuel. A frickin bio-FAE.

Even a sewage pit methane explosion would be hard pressed to cause such wide spread damage. This facility is huge. It covers square miles and you can see it from miles and miles away.

I regret to jump to conclusions but this is no coincidence. I don’t see how it can be.

So very very sad to see animals die this way.

I think the methane would be collected for use around the farm and for resale.

That looks like sabotage to me. What do they use on a dairy that could cause that kind of explosion?

I guess accumulated dust explosion from grain/feed bins could do the trick. Maybe methane from some manure abatement system. Add a spark then boom. The standard FR occam's razor though says eco terrorists.

It goes into the sewage lagoons in the background then it is spread as liquid fertilizer on the fields of crops that feed the cows. There are no manure piles on this facility.

that would decrease explosion risk, right? because the methane would be very efficiently burned by the digester?

Methane from cow-farts/waste for search a huge herd would never just collect in a building. That's why dairy barns are open-sided or vented.

As mentioned, I think the largest, most modern farms have ways to collect the gas - and use it. So it would gathered in tanks, possibly compressed - perhaps that is what exploded if handled improperly

Just my guess. I'm not a dairy expert (although my uncle did have 30 cows when I was kid!)

LOL!

Didn't consider the silo grain-dust. That's possible as well

Why would a dairy farm have the necessary components and potential to blow itself up?

The only thing I can think of would be methane from the cows. But I have never seen such a thing before.

Actually it was a fertilizer explosion.
