The Army drilled into me the definition of leader: one who takes responsibility for everything his unit does, OR FAILS TO DO.

Kirby gets more infuriating with each passing day.

I was involved in six Nuclear Surety Inspections at a nearby Nike Hercules battery in Germany. I led a platoon that would support the battery in case of a terrorist attack.

What I found striking was the attendance of the entire chain of command at the outbriefings, to include the Deputy CG of 32nd AADCOM. In case the battery failed the inspection, the General was there to relieve all COs on the spot: Battery, Battalion, and Group. The sense of "pucker factor" was overpowering.

Apparently, "failure" is encouraged in today's military, unless you're a white male.
