Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
ORYX ^ | Since February 24, 2022 and daily | ORYX

Posted on 04/01/2023 7:51:50 AM PDT by SpeedyInTexas

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it is not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

“The chief of the Russian General Staff (CGS), Valery Gerasimov — who became the overall commander of President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine on January 11 — “is pushing the limits” of the Kremlin’s tolerance of failure in the war, the UK Ministry of Defence said on Saturday.

“Gerasimov’s tenure has been characterised by an effort to launch a general winter offensive with the aim of extending Russian control over the whole of the Donbas region. Eighty days on, it is increasingly apparent that this project has failed,” the defence ministry said in a statement.

“On several axes across the Donbas front, Russian forces have made only marginal gains at the cost of tens of thousands of casualties, largely squandering its temporary advantage in personnel gained from the autumn’s ‘partial mobilisation’,” it continued.

“After ten years as CGS, there is a realistic possibility that Gerasimov is pushing the limits of how far Russia’s political leadership will tolerate failure,” it added.

Gerasimov was the fourth commanding general appointed by Putin to oversee the campaign in Ukraine since the war began.

Retired Lt. General Mark Hertling called the appointment of the 67-year-old general “bizarre,” telling CNN on the day of the announcement: “It’s troubling to me and it’s confusing to me why Mr. Putin did this other than potentially to place blame on Gerasimov, who is considered an insider in the Kremlin.””

The Russian military, the second largest military in the world, may not be what it looks like. Lies and systematic corruptions may in fact have dragged Russia into this war with Ukraine, which has been heavily backed up by the US and NATO. We will present the evidence, you make your own decision, because the Russian Army, is not what you think.

Designed to support the U.S. Army Captains Career Course, “Understanding Combined Arms Warfare” defines and outlines the important aspects of modern combined arms operations. This is not a complete history of combined arms warfare. It is intended to highlight the most important aspects of the subject.

The beginning of the documentary establishes a common understanding of combined arms warfare by discussing doctrinal and equipment developments in World War I. The second part compares the development of French and German Army mechanization during the interwar period and describes how each country fared during the Battle of France in 1940. The film concludes by showing how the United States applied combined arms operations in the European Theater in World War II.

-—> Wagner Raised Its Flag In Central Bakhmut But Victory Looks Less Likely By The Day<——
Ukraine Situation Report: While it appears that Wagner has entered central Bakhmut, it may have more psychological than military value.

[Actually its one small section in the southern district, claimed by advancing just one street ahead. Bakhmut Holds!]

Excerpts:
But in an interview with The New York Times published Thursday, a Ukrainian commander on the ground suggested that the assault on Bakhmut was on its last legs.

“The enemy exhausted all its reserves,” the commander, Col. Yevhen Mezhevikin, 40, told the newspaper on Tuesday.

The Russian assaults have slowed, Mezhevikin told the Times, and the imminent threat of encirclement has been thwarted.

“The density of assaults dropped by several times,” he said. “Before, they could assault in all directions simultaneously and in groups of not less than 20, 30 or 40 people, but gradually it is dying down.”

On Thursday, Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said on her Telegram channel there are days when Ukrainian troops kill ten times as many Russian troops as they lose.

“Unfortunately, losses are an inevitable consequence of war,” she wrote. “One of the main tasks of the warring party is to destroy the enemy’s physical strength. But the losses of the enemy are many times greater. This despite the fact that they have an advantage in the number of personnel and weapons.”

“We have days in the East where the kill ratio is as high as 1 to 10,” she said. “This is, of course, not every day, and the average coefficient is lower, but less nonetheless.”

A Ukrainian soldier may be the luckiest man on the battlefield.

“Military medics of the 66th OMBr, who work tirelessly every day and are the best surgeons and specialists, performed a successful operation and saved the defender’s life. -—> Ukraine Confirms JDAM Precision Bombs Are Now Being Used In Combat<——
A Ukrainian Air Force official has confirmed that the service is now using the air-launched precision-guided weapons operationally.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/ukraine-confirms-jdam-precision-bombs-are-now-being-used-in-combat

Excerpts:
... the announcement follows confirmation from U.S. officials that the long-range JDAM-ER version of the weapon had been supplied to Ukraine, providing the ability to hit targets up to 45 miles away with considerable destructive power, the implications of which The War Zone has previously explored in detail.

“We use JDAM bombs,” Yuriy Ignat, the spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, told Ukrainian television today. “These are Western-style bombs with which our air force successfully strikes important targets.

These bombs are slightly less powerful, but extremely accurate. I would like to have more such bombs for success at the front,” Ignat added.

The meaning behind the JDAMs being “slightly less powerful” is unclear. However, it may suggest that the weapons supplied to Ukraine are based on 1,000-pound or even 500-pound bomb bodies, rather than the larger 2,000-pound bombs with which they are also compatible.

So far, there are no details of which versions of the bomb are used by Ukraine, with no photographic evidence of the weapons in use, or of any recovered wreckage that could provide indications of this.

Another big mystery that continues to surround the Ukrainian JDAMs is exactly what aircraft platform is launching them. Likely candidates comprise the Ukrainian Air Force’s MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker fighters, as well as the limited number of Su-24 Fencers that provide longer-range strike capabilities.

An outside possibility is the Su-25 Frogfoot that otherwise mainly employs unguided rockets in the ground-attack role.

Notably, at least some of Ukraine’s MiG-29s and Su-27s have previously undergone integration of U.S.-made AGM-88 High-speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM) and broadly similar modifications could have been made to permit use of the JDAM.

[Genius: Ukrainians Deliver Ammo Underground | We Dug a Tunnel to Bakhmut | The Russians Realized It too Late]

Day 401: March 31

Today the biggest news is coming from the east. Here, Russian forces have been trying to collapse the Ukrainian defense by cutting all the supply roads for 8 months.

Over the last month, they have lost dozens of assault units in their attacks near the Khromove and Ivanivske highways, only to realize that all this effort was useless because it was recently revealed that Ukrainians are supplying Bakhmut from Chasiv Yar via tunnels.

Last time I told you that Ukrainians successfully pushed Russians from the tree lines in front of the Kromove highway and eliminated for them the possibility of using ATGMs to hit the vehicles on the highway. I also told you that Ukrainians assumed strong positions in the residential areas, which allowed the snipers to have extensive control over the streets and support Ukrainians that are close to the enemy’s positions.

The freshest reports suggest that the toughest fights are taking place in the southern part of the city. Here, the Ukrainian 93rd Mechanized Brigade continues holding tight control over the region and counter all Russian attempts to cross the railways and attack the stadium from the west.

Available combat footage revealed that Wagner units tried to conduct an assault here at night. Ukrainian forces, in turn, met them with mortar fire. As a result, 5 troops were immediately killed, and 3 more were left wounded.

Ukrainian 93rd Mechanized Brigade has also been trying to prevent Russians from crossing Mariupolska street. Recent footage showed that Russians managed to cross the street at the main intersection and attempted to get deeper. Half of the Wagner squad cleared the house, another half joined them, and then Ukrainians conducted an artillery strike. Despite rebuffing the attack, it is clear that Ukrainians do not maintain a permanent presence in these houses anymore.

When it comes to the central part of the region, Russian forces have achieved notable success here. As you remember, several weeks ago, Russians unsuccessfully tried to ford the river and establish control over the central block of houses. Recently they tried something similar.

After establishing full control over the school, Russians started narrowly moving north along the river and combined it with an attack across the river. This time it was successful, and they captured half the square. Recent footage shows that Wagner forces raised their flag on the roof of an apartment complex.

Since these newly captured houses were not completely leveled with the ground, Wagner forces started using the best of them for living. However, Ukrainians that had just stepped back from the area knew very well which houses were suitable for staying, so they monitored this area closely, noted which houses Wagners occupied, and started shelling them extensively.

In the northern part of the region, the situation has become more stable. Around a week ago, Wagner forces crossed the railways, and the fight broke out near the culture house, but judging by the latest reports, Ukrainians managed to push Russians one street back because right now, the fights are taking place near the stadium. Ukrainian 1st Border Detachment also released a video showing how they are assaulting Russian positions.

As you can see, the intensity of fights continues to be high, and many military analysts have continuously been forecasting that Ukrainians should run out of ammunition, especially during the times when Russians devoted a substantial portion of their forces to cutting off Ukrainian supply roads. However, despite the destroyed bridges, fire control over the roads, and horrible weather, Ukrainians still continued to fight.

Recently, Wagner forces got information from the Ukrainian prisoner of war that Ukrainians are using underground tunnels to supply ammunition from Chasiv Yar to Bakhmut. Some people have speculated about it previously because Ukrainians are known to have such tunnels in Spirne, Marinka, Soledar, and Paraskoviivka, but now all the doubts have been dispelled.

Nonetheless, Ukrainians are still using the highways. One of the reasons is to complement the underground deliveries because the tunnels are unlikely to allow for big supplies. And another reason was to make Russians think that they could collapse Bakhmut by cutting the roads and forcing them to pursue a meaningless objective. So, for security reasons, Ukrainians have several layers of supplies.

Denys says:
[You Shall Not Pass | Big Trap For Russia in Bakhmut | Putler Begs For Peace Again]

Putin really wants peace right now and sent Lukashenko to promote the idea.

Translation: The Russian are terrified of the Ukrainian Spring offensive because they have nothing to counter it and it could go all the way to Crimea.

Zelenski said that Putin wants to put nuclear weapons in Belarus means that negotiations with Xi Jinping failed [and thus his early departure from Russia]. During the negations, China signed a paper saying it not want to escalate the war with nuclear weapons and was against expanding the Nuclear Club or putting such weapons in other countries.

And then one week later, Putin pushes to put nukes in Belarus. Zelenski says Belarus is no longer an independent country and cannot determine which weapons it will host.

China’s position in the negotiations was, apparently as predicted, to have Russia end the war and withdraw its forces. His show that Russia is now a vessel of China and cannot negotiate a peace plan with them. Now the war ends, not with someone’s ‘peace plan,’ but when Russia withdraws its forces.

Now its going to be Zelenski negotiating with Xi.

The Supreme Commander of NATO’s armed forces, 4 star General Christopher Cavalli says NATO cannot afford to allow Russia to win the war as it may lead to unforeseen circumstances for Europe and NATO countries.

11,000 Ukrainian troops are now being trained in European bases. The idea is to get more quality instead of quantity. For Ukraine, it’s crucial to use its limited [compared to Russia] resources properly and efficiently. [A point that War In Ukraine hammered on early in the war.]

Life in Ulraine as part of the USSR was really terrible, and Denys is glad they have left that behind and are on the road to freedom and democracy. The millions starved under Stalin was the first attempt to get rid of their Ukrainian identity and now Putin wants to try again.

To understand the nature of the coming Ukraine Spring Offensive it is necessary to watch these two videos. They are included in my daily posts as boiler-plate.

You will see reflected the current not-our-war, isolationism and general anti-war sentiments played in the background of the start of WWII just as today.
