If he didn't know about the Daniels letter to Trump, he was also a terrible lawyer.

The letter was written in 2018, well after Cohen wrote the check

I could be wrong, but I think that her providing this letter was probably part of the agreement for which she received that $130,000. At least, that makes more sense than thinking that even someone like Cohen would pay her without getting anything in writing that could be used to go after her if she kept telling stories to the media.
