I think the logic is that he paid her with his money but seeing that he was running for office and that paying her benefited his campaign that the funds he paid her with was a campaign contribution off the books. Therefore is was either an illegal contribution and illegal use of campaign funds.

There’s a timeline in this “CBS” article. It’s obvious he’d get a slap on the wrist if he were not Trump so it’s hard to predict.

You could be right, but my understanding is that it wasn’t paid from campaign funds, but prosecutors are claiming that it was a campaign expenditure (since it helped his campaign), so they want to prosecute him for not reporting it as a campaign expenditure. It’s a really weak legal argument, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.
With as many agencies as they’re talking to about this, you’d think they expect that something is going to happen.
The question is ..Will it?
If they indict Trump and we don’t get off our ass and get out there and put the fear of God Almighty into them, then America is done. Period.
