DeSantis must be something really special - a unique, once in a generation kind of political leader - for so many people to turn on Trump over his criticisms of DeSantis. Or maybe those doing so, never liked Trump to begin with, and their support of Trump was always tenuous at best.
Trump’s ability to challenge and shift the paradigms that dominated GOP thought for decades and his ability to persevere in the face of unprecedented pushback from the Uniparty, put him on a level DeSantis couldn’t hope to attain. Trump has challenged the D.C. establishment in a way no other President has, and has faced unprecedented pushback, as a result. The Desantis lovers are rallying around a governor who’s had a friendly legislature and little pushback and pretending that what he’s accomplished in Florida proves he’s capable of leadership on the national level. These people are gullible and have learned nothing, from the past 6 years, it seems. They’re living through a battle with an enemy few of us knew existed, six years ago (i.e. the deep state) and want to go back to “the good old days” as if nothing has changed. They want to go back to a time of judging a candidate superficially, judging him by how conservative he sounds, and ignoring the people in the background who are really pulling his strings.

Your whole analysis is well stated.
