First a look back. Trump could have pardoned them before leaving office. This is just a comment, hindsight is 20-20. It’s not a criticism because I’m sure no one (not Trump, not Tucker Carlson, not me) could have guessed how badly the J6 prisoners would be treated. And as a side note, the Sixth Amendment guarantees a speedy trial. I’m guessing that the J6 prisoners have lawyers. Why haven’t these lawyers brought up the 6A? Perhaps Trump should look into that.

No, he couldn't have. They hadn't even been arrested yet. Also, The Turtle threatened him that if he pardoned Snowden or Assange or presumably any of these defendants - what few had been arrested before he left office - he McConnell could get enough Republicans to go along with Shampeachment II. Trump's hands were tied.

First of all, I want to thank you for your civil reply. Too often Trump threads (and Ukraine threads) degenerate into insult matches. What’s the value in that?

> They hadn’t even been arrested yet. <

A person does not have to be arrested to be pardoned. Recall that in 1977 Carter issued a blanket pardon to all Vietnam War draft dodgers. Most of them had not yet been arrested.

> Also, The Turtle threatened him [Trump] ... <

I had never considered that. However, given how the Deep Swamp operates, I find that quite plausible. So I might have to rethink my original comments.

By the way, this is an example of how valuable a civil FR conversation is. Instead of yelling at me, you presented an effective counter-argument. And so you taught a fellow Freeper something.
