Johnson never appeared to be shocked or shaken by the event in the days immediately following. He hated Kennedy’s guts. He felt that he was cheated out of the nomination.
There was plenty of motive.
He made sure that he didn’t ride in the same car. Etc.

That is my belief too. LBJ knew that Kennedy wanted to
pull out of Vietnam after the Diem fiasco, but that
would have put the spotlight on the Great Society scam
that would have stopped the socialization of America.
Also LBJ was a mean SOb just as a side note.
