Unfortunately, Newsom, et al, aren't smart enough to get the message. It's a long run problem and the long run to politicians is their term of office. Massive deficits, Federal, State, and Local, are of no concern to them because their impact is deferred to the long run.

Can’t stabd AOC or Elizabeth Warren, but Mr Wonderful laying the blame at there feet for a poor business climate in some states is disingenuous.
The business climate in any given state is overwhelming controlled by the state legislators and the governors in those states - not by US rep’s or US senators - as useless as they are.
