Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
ORYX ^ | Since February 24, 2022 and daily | ORYX

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it is not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

Looks like a slow withdrawal in Bakhmut.

Putin has killed the goose that laid the golden eggs. Russia will be a much poorer, and much more hated place, because of him.

Russia’s Oil Revenues Plunged By 48% In February (https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Russias-Oil-Revenues-Plunged-By-48-In-February.html)

“Russian tax revenue from crude oil and petroleum products plummeted by 48% in February from a year earlier due to the much lower price of Russia’s flagship crude grade after the EU banned imports of Russian oil, according to Bloomberg estimates based on official Russian data.

Total tax revenues from oil and natural gas dipped by 46% year over year to $6.9 billion (521 billion Russian rubles) in February, per data from the Russian Finance Ministry published on Friday.
Russia’s revenues from crude oil and oil products alone crumbled by 48% annually to $4.8 billion (361 billion rubles), according to Bloomberg’s calculations. Oil accounted for more than two-thirds of Russia’s energy tax revenue in February.

Russian natural gas revenues also plummeted last month compared to February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine.”

Wagner Group is now a formally designated International terrorist organization.

It is just a front for Russian Military Intelligence - it is the Russian Government that is engaged in organized terrorism, as a matter of policy.

Oops, my mistake - International criminal organization, not terrorist.

The US Government has formally determined that the Russian Government has committed crimes against humanity in the Ukraine.

Both of those designations carry legal, economic, political and diplomatic implications - but the terrorist designation has yet to drop. It has been being discussed for some time already, and the wheels are slowly turning.

Looks like a slow withdrawal in Bakhmut.

I believe that Russia had found a way to neutralize Madyar's drones.

I saw a video which claimed that Madyar himself has withdrawn from Bakhmut to the next line of defense.

Without drones, the only option for UKF is to withdraw.

Excerpts:
M60 Armoured Vehicle-Launched Bridge (AVLB) in Action
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWMrY49qqDw

The most immediate difference between the M60 AVLB, which is operated by a crew of just two, and an M60 tank is the removal of the turret and its replacement with a hydraulic bridge-launching mechanism.

Less obvious are the substantial changes in the internal configuration of the bridge-laying vehicle compared to its parent tank. The front end of the hull, where the driver sits in an M60 tank, is now full of hydraulics. As a result, the ALVB’s driver sits together with the vehicle commander in a new position in the center of the hull where the turret ring had previously been.

The bridge itself is stored folded in half while the vehicle is on the move and then is unfolded by the bridge-launching mechanism when it is deployed. The original bridge design is around 60 feet long and some 12 and a half feet wide. Improved designs have been introduced over the years, defined primarily by increased weight ratings.

Exactly how much weight the bridge can sustain depends on how it is emplaced, with it being able to support heavier equipment if more of it is on stable ground. For instance, versions of the bridge used with the M60 AVLB can support the weight of a current generation M1A2 SEPv3 tank, which tips the scales at around 72 tons, but only when positioned across a gap no more than 48 feet wide, according to one unclassified Army manual.

It typically takes between two and five minutes for the ALVB’s crew to emplace the bridge and around 10 minutes for them to load it back onto the vehicle.

Excerpts:
Not all weapons used by Ukraine are as sophisticated. Australia has sent Ukraine at least 100 drones made out of wax-coated cardboard and rubber bands, conveniently flat-packed for easy transportation and assembly, according to 7News Australia:

Russia introduced the Arena-E active defense system designed to protect armored vehicles from anti-tank grenades and rockets as well as ground-launched and helicopter-launched anti-tank guided missiles attacking both directly and from above.”

However, “there is no evidence” of Arena-E being installed on Russian armor in Ukraine, the U.K Defense Intelligence Directorate said.

Russia has been unable to replace its lost armor because the Russian Federation is unable to establish the production of high-tech defense systems on an industrial scale, according to the U.K. Defense Intelligence Directorate.

Russia may not be providing its most up-to-date armor on the battlefield, but it’s apparently fielded a Frankensteinian concoction that places a 25mm 2M-3 naval turret on the body of an MT-LB multipurpose tracked armored vehicle.

Reporting from Ukraine:
https://www.youtube.com/@RFU
••Day 373.

Today there are a lot of interesting updates from the Donetsk region.

Here, Russians found out that Ukrainians were too focused on the southern part of Avdiivka and assaulted Ukrainian defenses to the east of Avdiivka.

Ukrainians left their positions, abandoning a piece of seemingly functional equipment, but as it turned out, it was a Trojan horse, so once the vehicle exploded and killed a third of the squad, Ukrainians got a perfect opportunity for a counterattack.

Last time I told you that Russians increased the intensity of attacks to the northeast of Avdiivka in order to disperse Ukrainian troops and give Russians to the south an opportunity to finally establish control over the hills.

However, it seems like Ukrainians refused to play by their rules and continued to prioritize the defense of the highlands in front of Vodiane at the expense of their positions in the lowlands.

It seems like Russians started adapting by slowly turning their spoiling attacks into intense assaults. The main direction of these assaults became the small village of Vesele.

Usually, it is very hard to cross highways in open spaces, especially if the highway is located on a small embankment, like in this case.

The reason why Russians decided to penetrate Ukrainian defenses and cross the road at this particular point is simple.

If we look at the topographic map, we can see that this section is located in the lowlands and right in front of the village that they control. This means that they can rapidly assault, giving Ukrainians very little time to detect and respond.

Around a week ago, Russians managed to make a breakthrough and establish their positions in front of Vesele. Instead of taking control of this village, Russians made a prudent move and immediately assaulted Ukrainian positions on the hills in front of Krasnohorivka.

In doing so, they were trying to cut supplies and reinforcements to the Ukrainian village in the lowlands. Ukrainians, in turn, assumed an active position in Vesele and tried to undercut Russians.

Judging by the available footage, in the first days, Ukrainians heavily used artillery and drones and later started conducting mechanized assaults.

During this time, one Russian commander of detachments deployed near Avdiivka said that they managed to capture a trophy western armored vehicle, but he said that later this vehicle exploded and killed Russian soldiers.

Other military-affiliated people commented on this situation and said that this is how Ukrainians started making use of the broken equipment.

They get it to an enemy position in a fake assault, leave it in front of these positions and imitate a retreat, and once the vehicle explodes and kills up to a third of the squad, they assault this enemy position once again and establish control over it.

It looks like this is exactly what happened here because later, it was reported that Russians lost control over positions in front of Vesele and also had to retreat from the hill because Ukrainians effectively undercut them, leaving no room for supplies and reinforcements.

The freshest reports say that Russians have finished regrouping and conducted a series of assaults to recapture what they lost.

The footage shows that Ukrainians destroy with artillery fire one mini convoy of armored vehicles after another.

So far, Ukrainians maintain control over the area in front of Vesele, although it looks like they cannot get to the highway itself because Russians have established tighter fire control.

Overall, the high mobility of Ukrainian forces allowed Ukrainians to rapidly save the situation and eliminate the bridgehead that Russians formed in front of Krasnohorivka.

A change of location is a very effective tool to confuse the enemy because, in intense fights, it is taken at face value.

If you had been faced with an overwhelming fire, lost an armored vehicle, and retreated, then it is likely because your attack failed.

Germany wants to buy 96 Pz-87 Leopard 2 tanks from Switzerland. If sold then Germany can transship them to Ukraine without violating Swiss neutrality.

[The Pz 87 Leopard 2 differed from the Leopard 2A4 in that it uses AN/VCR 12 radio sets, has x2 7.5mm Machine Guns (coaxial and Cupola Mounted) and has additional snow grouses on the turrets side. Another interesting addition to the vehicle is the large circular tubes mounted across the hull rear.

These are actually muffler to reduce engine noise in built-up area’s. The Pz 87 WE Leopard 2 (Werterhaltung) is the most modern version of the Pz 87. In 2013 the final Pz 87 WE of the 134 upgraded was delivered to the Swiss Army.

In 2013 the final Pz 87 WE of the 134 upgraded was delivered to the Swiss Army. Of the remaining original Pz 87, a number have been sold to Canada and Germany. Others have been converted in to Combat Engineer Vehicles and others placed into storage <— storage is where the 96 are coming from.

ISW’s RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE CAMPAIGN ASSESSMENT, MARCH 3, 2023

“Ukrainian forces appear to be setting conditions for a controlled fighting withdrawal from parts of Bakhmut... Geolocated footage posted on March 3 confirms that Ukrainian troops have destroyed two critical bridges in the Bakhmut area—one across the Bakhmutivka River in northeastern Bakhmut and one along the Khromove-Bakhmut route just west of Bakhmut.”

“Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Oleksandr Rodnyanskyi noted that Ukraine has fortified the area west of Bakhmut such that even if Ukrainian troops begin to withdraw, Russian forces would not necessarily be able to rapidly take the entire city. If the Ukrainian military command deems it necessary to withdraw from Bakhmut it will likely conduct a limited and controlled withdrawal from particularly difficult sectors of eastern Bakhmut”
