The problem with this from a societal standpoint is that women won’t marry men who make less than they do as a general rule. Men will, but women won’t.
Ergo if men are earning more, no problem. You still as a society get marriages and kids and society carries on.
If its the opposite however you get far fewer marriages, the birthrate collapses and with it a whole host of other problems ensue such as collapsing social welfare programs, exploding budget deficits, etc etc. You also end up with far more unhappy, maladjusted lonely people of both sexes.
