Because she was not an adult and teens notoriously put up with all sorts of abuse. That is why we treat adults and children differently. They don’t have COMPLETE agency, they are easily manipulated, they believe most lies without questioning especially from authority figures, they have far fewer legal rights and credence in society, and they try things out heedless of the harm they do to themselves or others.
