A banjo-trombone duet? I can’t vouch for the popularity, but that would be innovative. Get some accordion backing in there for harmony, and I think they could be onto something.

Del McCoury is very innovative. His band recorded an album with Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Bluegrass and Dixieland are very similar in presentation; the instruments are just different. The collaboration worked extremely well. The album is called Preservation Hall Jazz Band & The Del McCoury Band – American Legacies. Give it a listen.
