I was reading the other day that when freed Western slaves went back to Africa after the Civil War, they enslaved the natives because they had the technology to do it.
Yes indeed. The new freedmen who went to Liberia enslaved the locals. They knew how to do it. They are still at each other’s throats to this day.
I read the same thing. I also read an stories by WDM Bell (arguably the best elephant hunter in history). In one story he talked about visiting Liberia in the late 1800s/early 1900. He talked about how those freed slaves, treated the original tribes very poorly.
I was in Liberia in the early 1990s during one of their revolutions. At that time, they called themselves the Americao-Liberian tribe and they treated the other two main tribes (I do not remember their names)like dirt. Unfortunately for the Americao-Liberians when I was there, the other two tribes were beating the Americo-Liberians like an ugly step-child.
