Air Force: Russia used Kinzhal missiles to hit infrastructure sites in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia on Jan. 26.
Ukrainian air defense is currently unable to shoot down Kinzhal missiles, according to Yurii Ihnat, the spokesman of Ukraine’s Air Force.
Kinzhal missiles are definitely difficult to shoot down.
If a NASAMs site (and possibly a HAWK site) is colocated with the target, then the NASAMs would have an excellent chance of shooting the missile down.
If the Kinzhal missile is overflying the NASAMs site enroute to another target, then NASAMs has zero chance of shooting it down.
This is basic intercept geometry.
Patriots are part of the solution. They will perform much better than the NASAMs.
