The article speaks to her work outside of acting
I am not aware of Billingsley being an activist of any sort
(Are we old?)
Ha. Middle-aged, middle-aged.
Oh my
Vintage
Yeah, I liked Donna Reed till I read how she changed from Republican to RAT and campaigned for McGovern because he opposed the war in Vietnam. She didn’t want her son (who was of draft age) to serve.
That’s news to me, though I believe you.
Sounds like a mistake on her part, a slip, rather than a serious flaw.
After all, she (and any of the good ones there) are living in Hollywood, lots to resist there, not all can do it all the time.
She also DID lean toward other traits that you would expect dramatic people to have, somewhat along the lines toward “animals are almost as important as people” — that can go too far nowadays after the fall, despite our original roles in the Garden of Eden.
There still should be a spectrum of thought, so long as, ultimately, people are ALWAYS more important.
But McGovern? Just WOW. Terrible. That’s maybe the most disappointing thing. I can understand a mother freaking our over her son in that milieu 1972.
Though “wage and price freezing” and “gold standard removing” Nixon had his own issues too. What a bad ballot, though at the time I liked Nixon, but I was too poorly informed to understand the issues of excessive centralized control that Nixon seemed just fine helping create.
Vietnam was not a “good” war, especially with the way Demoncrats set it all up and ran it.
I now think Vietnam, as handled, was a mistake, BUT THEN in high school, that same year 1972, I joined the Naval NJROTC, planning on Annapolis (and was advised by my Commander that would have gotten it), though with sight as bad as mine, and other plans and experiences in that training, I later decided against it. (By 1974 they did not need me either.) I do not want to go into more specifics here.
However, I think that Donna Reed is one of the good Hollywood women, despite that slip and maybe a few more, and I forgive her.
When I get a chance, I will “Reed” up on her more, “Donna it.” Sign. It’s a Wonderful Life.
