USA Today reported that the Monterey Park, Calif., shooting that left 10 people dead has “revived the fears and trauma” of “anti-Asian hate” for the Los Angeles Asian community.
72-year-old Huu Can Tran’s murderous spree began in Monterey Park late Saturday night at the Chinese-owned Star Ballroom Dance Studio, continued at the Lai Lai Ballroom in Alhambra shortly afterward, and ended midday on Sunday with Tran’s suicide.
Tran’s face had been plastered everywhere as the suspect hours before a SWAT team had surrounded his white van and discovered his dead body around 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Nevertheless, USA Today went with the “fears and trauma” of “anti-Asian hate” story hours after Tran was ID’d by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as the suspect.
“The incident,” reporters Marc Ramirez, Jordan Mendoza, and Orlando Mayorquin breathlessly wrote, “has revived the fears and trauma brought on by a wave of hate incidents and tragedies that have struck the community over the last few years.”
You can’t blame the reporters for going with what scared victims experienced in the moment, but hours after the shooter had been positively identified as Asian, you can certainly blame the editors for continuing to frame the story with a demonstrably false narrative.

Historically the Californians treated Chinese so badly they made the South appear to have treated slaves like family. These are the descendants of those people that run California today.
There is only one group I can think of that hates asians, well two I guess though the discrimination comes from the overall group and the violence comes from a subset of that group
Actually it was just Huu CanTankerous.
The incident,” reporters Marc Ramirez, Jordan Mendoza, and Orlando Mayorquin
Hmmm three reporter by the names all male Hispanics
Some diversity USA today has... could you aleast have an Asian the report on this
They are racist.
The ballroom has a Chinese owner, and most of the clientele appear to be Chinese, although the instructors are heavily Eastern European.
I’d think Vietnamese violence towards Chinese would qualify as a hate crime.
Don’t buy their narrative.
It’s okay. There were morons here saying the shooter was black.

I saw a news story about a shooting in California by their local news channel. Everybody, and I mean of 5 or 6 people on the report, spoke accented or broken English; the reporters, the witnesses, and the police. I wonder if there any, you know, native Americans in California any more?
