Very few people would measure gas in tons, as in weight. It is usually measured by volume or BTU.

If you're trading in gas for international shipping, the product is in liquid form at cryogenic temperatures. I'm pretty sure that's measured in tons, because the capacity of the LNG carrier ships is given in tons.
