It is an interesting thing that "European" as a descriptor of location may be used for most of the "seminal" political writings of Marx (who wrote in the UK and is buried in Highgate), Hitler, Mussolini and Gentile, the Frankfurt School (which then migrated to the US), and when one additionally considers the or US Founding Fathers and seminal Declaration of Independence was "American," the notion of "a European issue" is a thought-provoking argument about a geographic influence on thinking.

Added to this is the notion of the current European Commission, unanswerable to the European electorate, is becoming all the more authoritarian, it becomes more a "European" event through them as well.

Certainly many wars make up the history of Europe, and when one considers "wars won post WWII," there are many, though there have been many cut-and-run, courtesy of a somewhat modern "American" thought process in which "winning" has not been evident as an outcome, while massive debt is.

Perhaps it is our time to return to that kind of thought which was able once to say, "When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation. We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

Such sentiment was definitively not European when written....
