New Text Scam - very convincing if you're not thinking!

Let me guess, it just says, "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help you."

Democrats just eat it up.

I've been busy placing boxes of cat crap and litter clumps of cat piss in boxes this season. I place them on my porch and neighbors porches just after Amazon or FedEx drop off on our street. I actually saved up litter box presents starting in October just for the holidays.

That’s excellent. 😂

Are any jerks taking the bait?

We don’t seem to have a bad porch pirate problem where I am, but if that changes, I do have an 18-pound cat. His litter box gets scooped a couple of times a day, so I’d always have a renewable supply of “product.

Yep. If the phone call or text is not from a known person, a known company or a family member, it goes right to trash.

I am amazed that they keep up the steady stream of “You’ve WON!!” BS text messages filled with spelling and grammatical errors as well as a gazillion odd Unicode characters. How can anybody still fall for that crap in 2022? Can these scammers possibly be making any money?

I got that same PayPal scam, with someone with a Yahoo email address claiming I ordered Microsoft Office for $299. I notified PayPal, but they were useless. I canceled their request for $$$ and called it a day.

Difficult to send texts to a landline.....................😉

Naw, it's easy. I do it all the time. Just taking them a long time to get back to me, I guess.

I’m an old guy, so naturally I’ve got a lot of gripes. One of them is that the government and the media do little to warn folks of these scams.

After seeing TV Commercials offering lessons on how to vote and that the new Covid19 booster is available, I want Congress to pass a bill preventing government from ever advertising anything at all forever.   That is not in the Constitution.

If the text or phone call isn’t from someone in my contact list, it gets blocked.

Me too. And if they are on my contact list I find it's usually best to ignore it, too.

I got several email from me thanking me for renewing my Geek Squad membership. Must be amateurs. A real scammer would at least have figured that the from and to addresses should be different.

Also, when telling me my Visa card password needs to be verified, at least try faking a bank or at least the last 4 numbers.

They just aren’t putting the effort in that I expect anymore.

As a former Private Investigator who specialized in skip tracing, I used this ruse a # of times. Had one case where 4 other investigators had worked the case, but could never pinpoint exactly where the subject lived or anything else. All we had was her cell phone #. So, I called, left a message (A to Z Delivery!) and left an 800 # that was actually my trapline. It would capture the # the subject called from, along with address and gave the subject chance to leave a message. She did, outlining the fact she was working at xyz company, drove a school bus in the morning and would be at a specific address after work. Works like a charm on most, as most folks don’t actually pay attention to what is going on around them.

I received a text from my wife, telling me to leave the strip club and come home for dinner.

Yeah...like I am falling for that one!

Stop looking at email.   It works for me.   Right now, I have 1149 emails in my inbox.   Maybe once every month or two, I group everything by sender and quickly delete most of them without a glance at the titles.

Of course I do the same with messaging.

I must admit that I get away with this because my wife gets the important stuff.   I've been retired for eight years and even the head hunters have mostly stopped bothering me.   I just opened my email engine a couple of days ago, to look for a receipt emailed from Home Depot, no problem.

Email is only a tool, and should not be a liability or a burden.   I also got this way from being a 40 year telecommunications technician, retired from Verizon after 31 years.

Electrons are not God.   They pass through wires with little resistance.   Don't let them rule you.

I received a text saying “your package is at our fulfillment center but there is a problem with the address you need to correct”. I had nothing on order or pending so I texted back “you don’t say”. and blocked the number.

I have been seeing emails from Fed-X, UPS, USPS, DHL, etc. saying they have a package for me and I need to arrange delivery. Watch out for these. Sender’s address not even close to reality.

Also be careful of emails saying you won a prize. SCAMS are everywhere lately.

I live in Memphis. They’re gone in no time. It’s how the hood rats shop for the holidays. Memphis is lawless crazy. It makes Philadelphia look like thug kindergarten.

The government and media scam us with disregard. The private sector scammers do so covertly.

Not a spit worth of difference between them.
