BeauBo's post at #97 states "The US is giving Ukraine $53M and another $56M is coming from Germany to supply Ukraine with transformers and other key parts for the repair of the Ukrainian electrical grid."
I believe that prior to the war Ukraine was supplying electricity to at least one EU country. I'm guessing that electricity in Europe is standardized at 240 volts at 50 hertz. What I don't understand is...If Ukraine's electricity is the same as EU then why would the transformers need to be custom built?
Please remember that I am a pilot and not an electrical engineer. Thanks!
If Ukraine’s electricity is the same as EU then why would the transformers need to be custom built?

If ...
I can only report that WiU said many are custom built - I cannot confirm if he is correct, but then, unlike him, I’m not a Ukrainian, nor live in Ukraine.
Germany may supply Ukraine with transformers, but when? - also remember Ukraine was a Soviet state with a Soviet railroad system and I would guess that also applies to the electrical grid and its components. Just because the voltage may be standardized, does not mean the components are.
FWIW:
“The Ukrainian power grid was built when it was part of the Soviet Union, has been upgraded with Russian parts and (as of 2022), still not been fixed.”

A dozen countries have committed to help restore Ukraine’s power grid, including Japan and France.
It is a war in itself
