"Well ok, things might be bad. But look at the bright side. At least she's not in the country she hates." Yes, and it is a wonderful opportunity to learn Russian as a second language. Immersive learning is the best way to learn a foreign language. Imagine, someone who could barely speak English will leave prison fluent in Russian. No everyone gets such a great opportunity.
