I Judged Student-Loan Borrowers … Until I Became One. If loan dollars are to flow, borrowers should be made to understand the terms.

” I have the remaining principal on my mortgage down to the penny”

Due you correct daily for accrued interest?

It depends on the student loan. Some need parental consent and some do not need consent.

" ... Kind of like allowing them to vote. ..."

Was just going to raise this point. Along with them being able to drink, to drive, to join the service and go to war, marry, purchase a firearm, etc., etc.

But God forbid they be required to understand the document they signed, agreeing that they understood what they were signing. It's not like they're smart people headed of to university, or something. {/sarcasm}

We refused to fill out or sign FASFA for our kids. And yet they all managed to get through college on their own with minimal or no debt. Parents need to quit enabling the monster preying on their soft spoiled children.

No, I just take it off my statement for the current month.

I understand your point but I don't need to achieve that level of accuracy.

How could they spend 13 years in K-12 and not learn these basics? And then how could they get admitted to college without having such basic 4tb grade math skills?

Not true. Maybe some private loans, but not the govt ones.

I believe it depends on whether the child has turned 18 or not.

In my experience when taking out—and renewing—student loans I had to sit through a video presentation about the rules and regulations and my responsibilities to repay the loans. It was made clear that this was not a gift or grant, but a loan that had to be repaid.

However, recognizing that students today have problems in reading and retaining what they read, as well as a lack of interest (pun intended) in the subject matter, there will always be cries of: “I was scammed into signing that note.”

Just teasing based on your “down to the penny” statement to see how “anal” you are! :)

Similarly, a Business Insider survey found that 29 percent of student-loan borrowers say they either didn’t understand the terms and policies of their loans at all, or didn’t understand them well.

Yeah.

Try that excuse with GMAC and see how far you get having them forgive your auto loan debt.

My daughter took on a project in one of her required liberal arts classes. She fought public assistance program needs. She spent the semester proving she could eat nutritional meals for thirty cents a day. They ate her alive in the class which only emboldened her resolve. She did it. The professor privately told her how proud he was of her work. He admired her fighting mass influencing narratives.

It made her wildly unpopular around the college of liberal arts crowd.

Oatmeal, brown sugar, large cans of beets, 25 pound bag of rice. All portion controlled. She did steal coffee creamer cups of half and half to put in her oatmeal when she could. Thirty cents a day. Perfect health. Never lost a pound. That was in 2010.

They went after Big Phama because junkies were getting addicted to legitimate pain killers.

They should go after colleges and universities for the absurd and excessive tuition they charge.

I have very fond memories of once a month church spaghetti suppers that I took full advantage of while in college. They usually were $2.00 plus bring a dish.

That word “LOAN” in the document title should be sort of a clue to the recipients. It doesn’t call it a gift or a grant.

If they don’t understand the meaning of the word “LOAN”, they shouldn’t be going to college anyway.

I knew every fruit tree in town. The tide tables and best late night fishing spots. The Elks Club had monthly dinners too. The hotels had happy hour buffets too. I also traded fresh caught fish for food at the back door to restaurant kitchens. Keeping large 25 pound fish in a mini fridge isn’t possible. Especially with room mates.

Yeah, it’s really simple: you borrow, you pay back. Even a college kid can figure that one out.

Oh, pish posh. They don’t need to clutter their minds with this stuff. It’s not like they’ll ever need to know it since someone else will pay it off for them.

Sad to admit how dumb we were to pay ours and our kids’ tuition at the first of each semester and in full.
