Not really. To continue to advance, DeSantis is going to have to make compromises. That is if he wants to move beyond the state of Florida. When he starts making compromises, the base will draw their knives. Much like many of them are doing to Trump now.
If DeSantis has presidential ambitions, he’s going to need swing voters and moderates. When he starts courting them, the knives will come out.
I saw the same thing happen to GWB.
Trump isn’t a politician. So, he never had to please anybody but himself and his base. He didn’t need the GOP or their mega-donors. He made the media need him.
In spite of all that, the knives now seem to be coming out for him.
As President Trump noted, the Establishment didn’t want DeSantis; they were hoping the gubernatorial campaign would finish him. But he beat their candidate in the primary and beat the crackhead in the general without their “help.” There is no reason he’d make a deal with them.
