Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday his endorsements won Ron DeSantis the Florida governor’s seat. But he said DeSantis, now seen as Trump’s primary rival for the GOP presidential nomination, could have been more gracious.
Trump spoke exclusively to NewsNation about DeSantis, midterms and election integrity. The full interview with NewsNation’s Markie Martin will air at 6 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. CT on NewsNation. Use our Channel Finder page here to learn how to watch NewsNation.
“He was not going to be able to even be a factor in the race,” Trump said, referring to the GOP gubernatorial primary. “And as soon as I endorsed him, within moments, the race was over,” Trump said. “I got him the nomination. He didn’t get it. I got it, because the minute I made that endorsement, he got it.”

And what about Mega Deep State donors pushing DeSantis to fend off Trump?
Reagan said that he did not care who got credit for a win as long as it was a win. Trump had so many policy wins during his administration despite being battled by all the Dems and the RINOs but it seems that Trump cares more about getting credit for a win than actually winning.
Just think what a leader we would have if we had Trump’s savvy, brains, policies and patriotism without the pettiness.
And for the life of me I'll never square it in my mind how Ron DeSantis taught history at The Darlington School in my old home town of Rome, Georgia during his gap year between Yale and Harvard.
Nothing will ever be good enough, but to claim DeSantis didn’t champion Trump while a candidate or later thank him prominently is simply wrong.
DeSantis thanks Trump in victory speech
Amen. Now I’m reading more of what Trump said about DeSantis today, even threatening to disclose things about him. I can’t believe it. Makes me mad at Trump!
Make yourself look weak by sowing division.
************
Funny that you say that because I’m not the one sowing division. That’s what Trump was doing — and in the hours leading up what to what is an absolutely vital, must-win election. Need I remind you that party unity is more important than one man’s ego?
This isn’t abut the Art of War. Its about the Art of Leadership, and judging by comments on this board and elsewhere many people expect Trump to rise to the occasion at such an important moment in time. They were disappointed.
“DeSantis thanks Trump in victory speech.”
Which ignores the facts I pointed out. Desantis’ problems are very similar to Cruz’ problems. Good policies. But, a complete lack of People Skills and Zero Charisma. It’s why Cruz got clobbered by President Trump and why Ron almost lost to a POS with personality and charisma.
It takes far more than policy positions to win at a national level.
The Art of War. Already ammo is being wasted by our enemies and their focus is elsewhere while we MAGA.
I support President Trump and like what he did, but I wish he’d back off on DeSantis.
Obviously that's just nature taking it's course. Those who don't want Trump to be the Republican nominee know there's only a couple of people who even have a chance at unseating him, so their options are very limited on who to convince to take Trump on.
And that's all those rumors said, is that these donors and organizers were trying to talk to DeSantis, but it also said they were also interested in talking with Glenn Youngkin, and others, as well. They only have a few options available so they are pursuing them, that's a huge difference from "DeSantis is a puppet of Paul Ryan" some are frantically trying to claim.
What was interesting about those reports was how Kevin McCarthy was presented as one of the prominent members of this dangerous deep state cabal courting DeSantis, but when Trump re-iterated his support today for McCarthy to be named the new speaker of the house, apparently that's all well and good.
I heard the same belly-aching when Trump said "that face." Some people learn slow.
You do know if Trump didn’t say what he said about DeSantis to two news sources in sit down interviews, we wouldn’t be discussing this, would we?
No it doesn't. It directly refutes your original claim that DeSantis never thanked Trump.
Desantis’ problems are very similar to Cruz’ problems. Good policies. But, a complete lack of People Skills and Zero Charisma.
That's a very subjective assessment, that isn't really measurable. For something measurable, see Trump's nationwide unfavorable ratings, which are unfortunately very high. I for one can't really even watch his rallies anymore, because he spends the majority of them reading off the teleprompter with this tone in his voice like he's reading a children's bedtime story to us. DeSantis never does that. He sounds like he is speaking to adults, not children, and rarely uses a teleprompter. If that's not what you prefer, to each his own.
There is not one negative post about Trump's "more gracious" comment on both Truth Social and Telegram and I've read thousands of post compared to the few Karens here on FR.
“No it doesn’t. It directly refutes your original claim that DeSantis never thanked Trump.”
LOL. Thank you’s come AFTER a win. Not in a campaign ad while trying to win.
And, thank you’s do not involve taking outside money from people wanting you to run against the man that helped you win. And, after receiving those monies contemplating running against that man and distancing yourself from that man.
So many people are upset about what Trump said, but don’t be. If DeSantis runs, let the GOP voters sort things out.
There is not one negative post about Trump’s “more gracious” comment
*************
Being a bit selective there, aren’t we?
Its the totality of Trump’s remarks and you know it.
Obviously you're not even reading my posts, as I clearly linked a video of DeSantis very graciously thanking Trump AFTER DeSantis won. Go pester someone else, as I won't be replying to you again.
If you don’t like the belly-aching” why don’t you go to some board where everyone is in complete agreement with you?
I see a few people discussing it. What a waste of time.
Everyday, Trump talks about a dozen issues.
Take your pick:
1. Biden and the border
2. Biden and nuclear war
3. Maricopa election rigging
4. PA Votes not counting
5. Economy in the sewer
6. Gas prices to the moon
7. SPR dwindling as Biden putters
8. Cartels running the field
9. Kids trafficked, sold into slavery
10. Rosie O’Schmuckface is a pig
11. Twitter back in sane hands
12. Endorsements up the wazoo, including DeSantimonius for Governator.
Oh, and something about DeSantis farting into the wind or some such. Yeah, real important this one, yep.
