There are a few coal trains running parallel to I35 through central Texas. The string of cars hauling coal south is close to a mile long. They are loaded headed south and empty hauling butt north. They seem to have the right of way on the slower freight hauling trains. I’m not sure how many coal powered power plants there are in Texas but they do supply a large amount of the power for Austin, Waco and San Antonio.

Here in SW Arkansas we have a coal fired plant. During the big freeze last year the power stayed on while it failed in parts of Texas. Minus seven(the Experiment Station) and -4(the airstrip) is pretty tough for around here.
