There are also large underwater gas and oil deposits around Crimea.
But the world is full of untapped natural resources. This is why acquiring them by military invasion and territorial annexation must remain a thoroughly reputed action.
Question: For eight years, Russia was supporting independence movements in Donestk and Lunhansk. Now those territories are not indpenendent, they are part of Russia.
The organization, funding, leadership, and fighting for their "independent" was all by Russia anyway. So who is fighitng over coal and grain? The EU for trading, or Russia for invading?
