Met here under a motel awning in a Pasadena Texas one rainy evening. I was waiting on a cab to take me to dinner and she walked up and stood right beside me. I’m not one to “bother” celebs so I just kept looking for my cab. Then this little voice said, “hey, ain’t ya gonna say hello?” She knew I was trying not to bother her. I said “hello” and we had a little conversation. Her limo pulled up and I said “well here’s my ride” and she said, “don’t think so, yours is behind this one!” She was performing at Gilly’s at the time. What a thrill to actually meet the little lady.
Thank you for sharing that very nice story. Even though I grew up a few miles from Butcher Holler I regret that I never met Loretta.
That is cool. What a nice memory.
R.I.P., Loretta Lynn.
Oh no! Not Miss Loretta! Very sad news.
Neat story! Thanks for sharing.
I was given tickets to the CMA Awards by CBS back in 1989 (or somewhere around that year), which included the after party and got to see Miss Loretta there, but did not attempt to speak with her or any of the other stars. She was so gracious and classy even off stage, and seemed genuine, not that fake celebrity stuff. I just munched on the country ham biscuits served on fancy silver trays and whatnot, and was so surprised at how short Conway Twitty was when he spoke to me, but didn’t let on. Very nice man.
RIP Miss Loretta. And may the Lord comfort your family and friends in their sorrow.
