Which is exactly why this man and Bradley Manning were recruited. The Deep State wants operatives loyal to an evil cause and without enough evil people to recruit from, they'll recruit from the mentally defective just as well.
What I remember about Manning’s case is that his father urged him to enlist hoping the army will straighten him out. A common story I imagine.
He should have washed out early, but it was 2007 and standards were lowered by that time because of a lack of recruits.
