If Nordstream 2 had been operating, and delivering fuel to Germany while sending hard currency back to Russia, then you'd have a motive. But it wasn't operating, and there was no plan for anyone to be shipping fuel through it at any time in the foreseeable future. So what's the point of blowing it up?,

. Russians pissed off at the loss of a major customer, and wanting to creat a false flag is more likely.

It makes it impossible to count on any German weakening on its Ukraine policy. Putin and co seem to have been counting on breaking up the Euro consensus through the economic costs of the gas shortage. This was a very short term bit of leverage, as they were losing this market for certain.

Thats off the table now, no more short term leverage.
