For me the first was JFK, and I was a little girl. Then came Neil Armstrong’s famous walk on the moon. After that it was the Challenger, followed by the beginning of the Iraq War. Then came 9/11, and then Terri Schiavo’s passing. That last one may not be momentous to others, but it was important to me, as I felt our country had crossed a line. At that point, people were allowed to be treated more inhumanely than an animal or pet.

I take stuff like this under advisement. I don't bank on it or lose sleep over it, but do keep it in mind in the event it really is something to deal with. Then I know how to react to it.

I remember the first one starting. I was driving home from work when the DJ working the rock & roll station I was listening to broke into the middle of a song to announce tracers being reported over Baghdad. I was just driving past a car dealership that had a huge American flag flying and I got misty and whispered up a prayer for our troops.

Ironically, I don’t remember the specific moment of the second Iraq War starting. I followed it closely and was working in Baghdad less than a year later, but don’t remember how I learned that it had begun.
