Mercouris says Russia is paying for their gamble to invade with limited troops. Supposedly there isn’t even much fighting in much of the counterattack, the relatively few Russians are just running.
I would agree to some point. He’s not in great health, and he might linger around for two more years, with the ‘war’ in some state of existing.
Sanctions-wise, once they exit (after Putin passes)...sanctions go away.
Russians who exited the country (the million or so)? I don’t think they are eager to return.
On the natural gas business with Europe...they can turn on Nord Stream I and sell that without issue at that point. I doubt that the NS II pipe will be turned on for several years (maybe until issues pop up with NS I).
Distrust will brew for years, and this SPD/Green ‘wonderful’ eyes toward Russian leadership are pretty much ended in Germany.
One odd point, there’s long-range natural gas contracts being signed with other countries. I doubt the Russians can ever get above 25-percent with the Germans again.
Pretty much sums up the self licking ice cream cone that is our world throughout time. Government creates a problem, starts a war, white men die by the thousands or millions, all the while the people in government become richer.

Ukrainians are fighting for their land, people, and freedom. Russians for what? Mercenaries for money, conscripts out of ignorance and fear. They don’t want to die for Putin’s delusions of conquest. They retreat as soon as Ukr weapons can reach them.
Its bad when even the Chinese social media is making fun of Russian military.
Once Putin is gone, the successor can safe face and withdraw.

There is no peace faction in the Russian hierarchy - they were all ‘eliminated’ recently.
Russia has been firing cruise missiles at a bunch of the Ukrainian power plants.
The other two things that have happened, which have not been commented on much, are
1) the Ukes are now outside of defensive prepared positions
2) the Ukes have used most of their remaining best troops in this push (along with, apparently, foreign *cough* NATO *cough* “mercenaries”. This does not bode well for escalation.
Also, winter is coming. The greater EU economy is about to go into freefall as temperatures fall, due to their own imposed sanctions on Russia. This feels to me like a desperation move by the Ukraine, particularly with the simultaneous propaganda campaign against Russia talking up this “overwhelming victory” before the fog of war has lifted.
