The ribbon bridge is made up of special potoon units which are placed in the water from one shore and extended by adding additional units that link like pieces of a puzzle. This goes on until they reach the other shore.
Can handle combat vehicles from jeeps and large trucks to small armored vehicles, but not the Abrams tanks which is why the 54th Combat Engineers and elements of the 299th made rubber boat amphibious assaults on enemy positions on the east side of the river to seize the much larger and stronger concrete bridge for the tanks to use.
