You forget there were marches on some suburbs that were turned away by armed citizens with no one getting shot. Local coverage but no big national stories. But with the internet you can see everybody's local coverage if you look for it, which I did at the time after a situation in my own vicinity.
It's more about deterrence than winning firefights. So far. That applies to government action too.

Absolutely. There were videos of armed civilians monitoring an intersection just outside of downtown Minneapolis. The guys at street level sitting in lawn chairs had their long arms in front of them on a folding table. Their cover sitting in lawn chairs up on the roof had them leaning against the low wall edge of the roof like the Rooftop Koreans. Looked like some decent hardware up top especially.
There are videos of lines of armed civilians outside housing developments preventing rioters from going in.
There are dozens of videos of armed civilians guarding liquor stores in nicer neighborhoods as well.
