First, China has to find a carrier task force that does not want to be found. This is really hard in the open ocean when ships turn off radars and minimize radio emissions. Ships and Airborne Early Warning far away from the task force relay information. The units using active radar can be found, what they are relaying information to is not so easy to find. Weather can hide from satellites, and China does not have the same satellite reconnaissance abilities of the U.S.
