Sam was a Hell Fire preacher before his Comedy
career,
But You know that.
.
I knew that later but he did not talk about it at the time.
He was one of those people that didn’t seem to fear anything. Or, we were just all pretty drunk. Lol.
The nicest comedian I ever met was Bob Hope. A really gentle kind of guy. I met Buddy Hackett once and because the setting involved children he would not tell any off color jokes. A friend of mine had a party once and the entertainment was Jay Leno. He seemed funnier in person and was another very cordial guy. Who else? Oh - Phyllis Diller; she was a very beautiful woman actually. That’s about it except for Estelle Gettleman who’s stage name was Estelle Getty’s. I was at a party at the Rainbow Room and she sat down next to me. On Golden Girls she was much younger than she looked on TV. They really had her made up to look older so I did not recognize her. I was very young and she was pretty trashed. OMG, what a mouth she had on her. Every other word was “F” or “MF”. She was hilarious and a little bitty thing.
Crap - I don’t feel that old... LOL.
