@DefMon3 is a military guy on twitter.

To Summarize his view: I don’t care about Ukraine, but I want RuZZia to lose.

The big Freeport LNG export terminal in Texas is not expected to be fully operational (100%) until March, after the second dock is completed.

The first dock however, which has 85% of the capacity, is currently expected to start operating this November. It was expected in October, but has slipped a month.

The Germans are going gangbusters on increasing their LNG import capacity. They are building a 26km pipeline from the port at Willhelmshaven to a storage facility, normally a 5-6 year project, by year’s end. All the stops have been pulled out. Environmental Impact Statements have been waived, rather than delayed, by a special law passed and signed

Spending is off the hook to ramp up LNG capacity globally - now on track to increase 20 times over 2020, by 2024. 20 times, not 20%. Iraq started exporting LNG for the first time this year. Mozambique is on track to start this year as well (lots of investment going in there) Qatar, already in the top three exporters has plans to increase capacity 2/3rds more over the coming decade.

The invasion of the Ukraine was a watershed event in the LNG market. It is a shockingly rapid transition, by historical norms. Russia is the huge loser. Biggest winners are the USA and Qatar (in total dollars, in percentage terms, places like Algeria, Mozambique and possibly Egypt are poised for growth booms).

Russia had the third largest LNG expansion plans in the World at the start of the year (Arctic LNG 2 project), but those projects are now on hold as foreign partners (TotalEnergies and JOGMEC) have halted future spending. Even the Prime construction contractor (Linde) has walked off the job.

“I want RuZZia to lose.”

Russia must lose, or the world is back to jungle rules.

On second thought...

It might be good to track RuZZian artillery loses.

So I tracked down how to see old website pages. (https://web.archive.org) and tabulated artillery loses. I'll post each day along with tank loses.

Todays artillery numbers for RuZZia:

Artillery (Towed + Self-Propelled) Kills per Month
August 2022 – 17, Running Total: 238
July 2022 – 21, Running Total: 221
June 2022 – 18, Running Total: 200
May 2022 – 20, Running Total: 182
April 2022 – 52, Running Total: 162
Feb 24 - March 2022 – 110, Running Total: 110

RuZZia has been losing about 20 per month for four straight months. So UA has not made great progress with counter-battery.

Thanks for the LNG update.

I was going to research Freeport’s status after PIF’s morning update but got sidetracked.

Good news!

Germany has themselves to blame for their energy reliance on RuZZia and sad state of their military. Trump pushed Merkel hard to increase defense spending and cancel NS2.

It took this invasion to make the change. As they say, Be the German change you want to see. Or something like that.

“It might be good to track RuZZian artillery loses.”

It might be helpful to know how many tubes they have firing, and how many rounds they have fired, to assess wear on their total fleet.

After about 2,000 rounds, accuracy declines, and safety worsens. Eventually they blow up on firing, if too many rounds are put through a barrel.

They might lose more to maintenance than combat.

Some new weapons to the Ukrainians, or tactical changes could occur, that might increase their combat losses, so that is something interesting to watch for.

Not total arty pieces since they started with over 3,000 - almost all of them are old Soviet 122mm short range tubes.

Concentrate on the 152mm tubes and especially on the self-propelled pieces which are the biggest threat, since they cover all the other pieces. Eliminate them and the rest fall to UA’s Western SPGs.

238 is not even a dent.

From the Chatter & Unconfirmed Rumor Department comes these tidbits of info:

The 708th Military Transport Aviation Regiment based at Taganrog suffered an unspecified incident in the past 48 hours. Unknown if there were any fatalities but several injured personnel were evacuated by train for treatment elsewhere.

The 28th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade based near Mirny appears to have ceased operations in that location. They were moved from Chebarkul, Chelyabinsk Oblast in 2016 and elements of the 28th have been destroyed during the Ukraine War. It is estimated that the remainder of the brigade has been sent to Ukraine.

The 20th Missile Brigade based in Spassk-Dalny, Primorsky Krai removed its twelve Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile systems and they’re reportedly now deployed in the Novorossiysk area.

The awkwardly named ‘Operational Group of Russian Forces in the Transnistria region of the Republic of Moldova’ has had a problem with both suicides and desertions reportedly due to lack of supply, lack of r&r, and a “deteriorating command structure”. Russian veterans in the local PMR militia are reportedly being approached to serve as officers for the isolated/abandoned unit #13962.

That is all.

Democracies building up militaries. From Germany to Japan.

“Japan is set to approve what could be its biggest increase in defense outlays since the end of the war, putting it on a path to become one of the world’s top military spenders.

In a Defense Ministry budget request for fiscal 2023 expected by the end of August, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s ruling party is looking to double spending over five years from this year’s 5.4 trillion yen ($39.5 billion). Outlays of that scale could propel Japan from ninth in the world for military spending to a likely third spot behind the US and China, according to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, or SIPRI, which tracks defense spending.

Japan plans to reach an arsenal of about 1,000 missiles that can be fired from ships and planes and reach into North Korea and China, the paper said.”

Yes I noticed that on average it looks like 20 or more pieces per day and if they are verifying them they should be able to provide the links to the latest losses rather than going through each category and items. To me things like arty, sp arty, air defense, radar units, aircraft, trains and even trucks …. At this point are more important than tanks or bmps
