This woman was part of Hugh Heffner’s empire. Heffner was America’s greatest pimp. She admits writing numerous columns extolling the joys of sluthood on his behalf. She makes no mention of regret for the young girls and women who read her column and were encouraged or persuaded to be sluts. She mentions her Catholic heritage. Perhaps she could examine the moral teachings behind the rules a bit more closely. Within them there is an ancient understanding of human nature and behavior. There is the recognition that beyond the orgasm, sex is associated complex emotional feelings and impressions that are far beyond the casual and transient.
Her essay does not reveal any self realization or actually why she now has come to realize that being a slut was demeaning and harmful. Yet she can again search her Catholic heritage and feel some regret or dare say guilt for not only her own debasement but for the harm she did in conjunction with Heffner to her readers.
Good luck to her daughter. It won’t be easy.

I am reminded of the TV movie ″Shattered Innocence.″

Her mother pointed out that making a man want to have sex with you is not the same as making a man want to love you, support you and father your children.
I think porn, the feminist movement, and a lot of public media has pushed the No Stings Attached concept of free love and One Night Stands. It is seductive, but as I get older I understand that to have really great sex requires an ability to become emotionally vulnerable to someone you care deeply about and that as great as sex is “it” is called making love because of the emotional connection that real love and really appropriate sex conveys.

I’m glad she had her epiphany and everything, but this still smacks of the usual pattern: she’s a slut when she’s young, and then when she gets old enough to where men aren’t paying the same amount of attention to her, she suddenly realizes that wholesome chastity is the way to go.
The entire feminist movement, especially abortion and birth control pills, was completely about men wanting to get laid. It took away a woman’s right to say no. They, women, have been exploited ever since.
