I loved “The Great Escape”, but for a straight up war movie I liked “Waterloo” (1970, Rod Steiger). That one shows how to do a CGI free battle scene.

If “Father Goose” is a war movie, so is “Swiss Family Robinson”.

One of the first, if not THE first on your list should be “We Were Soldiers”. Best friend of my father-in-law was a scout sniper in Vietnam. He said, without any hesitation, that THAT movie was as close to the real thing as any movie has ever been.

Posted this to the first post, but coming from a man I considered a friend and was my father-in-law’s best friend from his teenage years (scout sniper in Vietnam) that “We Were Soldiers” was as close to the real thing as any movie has ever been.

Would never consider myself an aerospace buff but I’ve had the opportunity to get up close with the B-2, an F-35 and an SR-71. SR-71 hits me in the feels way more than the others.

The Deer Hunter, was an absolutely masturbatory POS with so many glaring factual errors in it obvious to anyone who’s been around the block just once that it does not merit a place on any list of BEST. Special Forces soldiers with the 101st Airborne? Making Staff Sargent on your first tour? It’s all nonsense!!!
A despicable film!

The Great Raid w James Franco
I met a guy who was there (NOT KNEW), Col ARTHUR “BULL” SIMONS. He was also the man who planned and led the Special Forces raid on SON TAY, in ‘71. Good Man.
