A good friend of mine's mother was a CDC researcher when AIDS first came on the scene. To this day she is adamant that the AIDS crisis didn't have to happen. Homosexuals are notoriously promiscuous, the average gay guy's number of lovers would make the most hard core bar whore blush. The homosexual community wouldn't even entertain calls to use condoms or to cut their number of random sex partners, they expected the government to come in and fix everything for them without any need to change their behavior. They didn't change their behavior and the virus exploded. My friend's mom said that if the homo community would have adopted condom usage in the early days then they likely could have contained and eradicated it, but they weren't going to do it.
