Russia Withdraws From Snake Island
Following heavy Ukrainian bombardment, Russian forces have now performed a “tactical withdrawal” from the strategic outpost in the Black Sea.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/russian-forces-have-finally-been-driven-from-snake-island
Excerpt:
“... the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, said that the Russian troops had departed only after bombardment from Kyiv’s troops and pointed to the effectiveness of the Ukrainian-made 2S22 Bohdana 155mm-caliber howitzer in this campaign. At the same time, Snake Island is at the very edge of the range of many extended-range 155mm shells, raising the question of what type of ammunition was being used. (Edit: Ukraine apparently has its own 155mm LR shells.)

“It appears clear, however, that the strategic importance of this rocky outpost is in no danger of diminishing any time soon. At the same time, it is stunning that the might of the Russian military and its vaunted Black Sea Fleet could not hold the island against a foe whose combat aircraft measure in the dozens and who has little to no navy of its own.”

••Russian banking system
Interbank lending fell by 27%. Means the banking system is starting to freeze and the banks don’t trust each other. So they stopped lending to each other. Interbank lending system is the clearing house for entire economy. A Repo Market (Repurchase Agreement) crash like this happened in the US in 2008. A collapse like this could lead to default on loans and the bankruptcy of the entire banking system.

••Perspectives of the Russian contract soldiers on the war
Russian soldier (from Russian sources), a conscript in Luhansk region, signed 3 month contact. After a few in his unit were killed, 70% of the unit refused to fight and returned to Russia, as is their right. So only 30% of the original unit remained, but they were really determined and motivated. He felt the unit was better off without the ones who returned. However, each task, he said, was more (f-word up)idiotic than the last one.

Command is completely inept, (f-word)incompetent, and anyone above company level commander is a (f-word)total disaster, inadequate and (f-word)(f-word)(f-word)(f-word). Finding a battalion commander who is capable is almost like finding a (f-word)piece of gold.

The supply system is also (f-word up)idiotic. Logistics is (f-word)terrible, (f-word)horrible, and the only thing he got was bullet-proof vest and a helmet. (Interjection: Actually he’s very lucky because the conscripts in the 2AK where he was fighting get no vest, and old steel WWII Soviet helmet.) The rest of his kit, he had to buy on his own: use your own (f-word)money or get (f-word)killed.

Russian artillery: he said there is plenty of it, but it is of low quality, so they just really on quantity, making a (f-word)moon landscape; precision of artillery strikes is extremely low quality in his opinion. He goes on to confirm Russian strategy that allowed them to push Ukraine army out by crating the (f-word)moon landscape, obliterating the area with artillery strikes, destroying significant portions oaf the defensive lines. The infantry then goes in to mop up remaining pockets of the (f-word)enemy.

Ukraine infantry not as strong in close combat fighting and under pressure folds quickly, in his opinion.

••Orc 200 Brigade Replenishment (which took heavy losses early on):
The way reserves are formed is by consolidations of the battalions (rather than standing up new ones). Brigade is from Murmansk area on the Russian White Sea in the north. They got volunteers or short-term contract soldiers from ships, coastal guards, military police ,and recently retired military personnel to form a new consolidated battalion for the 200th - now on the ay to the front.

Summary: No major Russian advances, low scale counter-attack of Ukrainian troops on the outskirts of Lysychansk.
Key areas:
- Izyum bridgehead: no changes.
- Popasna area: Russian attacks did not gain new ground; small Ukrainian counter-attack on the south-western outskirts of Lysychansk.
- Svitlodarsk area: no changes.
- Donetsk West: no changes
- Kherson bridgehead: no changes.

1. Kharkiv: No changes.

2. Izyum bridgehead. No changes.

3. Popasna area: Ukrainian forces recaptured south-western outskirts of Lysychansk including Gelatine factory and Rubber products factory.
••ZSU 56th made small scale but insignificant counter attack with some success. Tells us that Orc troops are all concentrated in one spot (like the tip of a spear), leaving many holes. But ZSU not strong enough nor experienced enough to launch a major counter attack. Political motivation is likely why the ZSU continues to hold the area.

4. Svtilodarsk area: No changes.

5. West of Donetsk: Avdiyivka and Maryinka. No changes.

6. Vugledar: No changes.

7. Velyka Novosilka - Gulyapole stretch of frontline. No changes.

8. Kherson bridgehead: No changes.
