Maybe the Ukrainians are being now being provided with extended range artillery shells, like Excaliburs, or some other NATO rocket-assisted projectile (RAP) round, that make Snake Island within 155 Artillery range.

They've had some of these in their inventory for sometime now. Approx. 30KM. However, they constantly experiment so who really knows?

Looks like Ukr. can now keep Russians off Snake Is. But Russians can likewise keep Ukr. off via naval/aerial firepower. Would not make sense for either side to take casualties trying to hold it. Once Russia lost the radar/air defense capability they left.

According to the article I read they have their own 155mm LR shells - but they may have been saving them until they got Western ammo to use for the not so long range targeting - they can’t have a lot of the LR shells since the SPGs only came on line in 2018

"Would not make sense for either side to take casualties trying to hold it."

I agree.

The significance seems to be more about control of shipping lanes from Odessa, and territorial claims (including offshore hydrocarbons) after the war.

And there is the psyop/morale value. They sold a million of those stamps, commemorating the Ukrainians who told that Russian warship what they could with themself.

“I probably don’t have to explain this but the total number of Bayraktar TB2s ever produced lays somewhere between 300 and 400”

Lots of RU ammo depots hit.

"Ukrainian forces have targeted several Russian ammunition depots since the invasion began. This map made in collaboration with @bradyafr shows the locations and aftermath of some of those strikes."

There is a satellite that spots fires - if you know which one and can access it then you will know by concentrations of fires where artillery strikes caused fires - would work for burning ammo dumps too
