A Ukrainian Tu-143 jet-powered drone, dating from the late Cold War era, has been shot down in western Russia, according to the claim of one local official. Originally a reconnaissance drone, the Tu-143 - also known as the Reys, meaning voyage in Russian - is closely related to the Tu-141, an example of which crashed in Croatia in March, in a bizarre and still-unexplained incident that we reported on here. The Tu-141 in Croatia reportedly carried an explosive warhead and the appearance of a broadly similar drone in Russia now further hints at Ukraine potentially having adapted these unmanned aerial vehicles as vengeance weapons.

Wholesale price of grain fell by 31% May - June. Grain bought up and brought to southern ports. Cheap commodity which needs cheap transport like short range rail and ships. No government subsidies. With more difficulties getting grain to ports, shipping costs more, so wholesalers had to pay the farmers less.
Ukraine government increased the price of its rail transport by 70% on July 1. This is like kicking their dying economy into even faster death spiral. The government wants to extract the small reminding profit the farmers have - insane policy.
Next year, the plantings will be less or not at all for some farmers with this incentive to NOT produce. This is the same insane policy that created their gas and diesel shortages: setting the price of fuel below market, so no one imports it. A form of Neo-Communism. The price of fuel rose, so fuel became more available, especially after they had to back down. But they go back to the same policy given the chance.
This contrasts with the Russian government, which is much more pro-market, pro common sense to increase the degree of freedom in their economy.
This Ukraine government is a huge problem - undermining its economy and ability to defend itself. (Edit: like the Greens are doing to the US economy with the Biteme administration.) Economy is the basis for war: no economy, no war.

Electricity demand and use fell by 5% - a significant decline. Car manufacturing ground to an almost complete halt, essentially dying in May. Total car manufacturing Jan - May: 268,000 cars or 60-80,000 cars per month. Truck production fell by 40% which infers that Russian GDP will fall by 40%.

Wheeled, self-propelled 2S22 Bohdana 155 howitzer, 52 caliber, max range 42km, compatible with standard NATO ammunition ... Bogdana demonstrated a range of 40 km with ERFB-BV extended range shells with improved aerodynamics. It also demonstrated a range of 42 km with rocket-assisted shell. Range with a standard HE-FRAG shell could be around 30 km. So this Ukrainian artillery system outperforms the older Soviet howitzers and is on par with modern Western howitzers
According to wiki - in 2020, Russian tanks numbered around 3,000. If the numbers are even close to true, Russia has lost roughly 1/4 of their tanks.
I interpret that as being unable to sustain a front against NATO collectively. Also make an attack on any one other nation highly unlikely.

I’m sure there is at least one person interested in the latest statistics about whatever junky Russian military hardware has been destroyed. Maybe they should do it weekly? The numbers would look much more interesting.

Another long term outcome of Putin’s invasion. The Armored Counter-attack Corps jumps forward a few hundred miles toward Moscow. Poland becomes the new Germany, for the new Cold War, except it will enjoy buffer/tripwire States in the Baltics, that Germany did not.
