Really makes you wonder what Dick would have to say if he were to see society the way it is now if he were still around? I’m sure He’d have a field day with “Drag Queen Story hour”.
I lived in San Francisco for ten years, right when AIDs began. I had a few gay friends and one told me what goes on in bathhouses: Guys would do ten or twenty other guys every night. That particular gay man did get AIDS but did manage to live a long and healthy life anyway.
Everyone was frightened, as at first it was not clear how it was transmitted. Could we get AIDS from someone breathing on us, like catching a cold or flu? Another gay man, a classmate, was among the first to die, very handsome fellow. And apparently quite promiscuous.
Scary and sad, all of it.
