They have no idea how far apart rural homes are. Do they really think there are enough of them to surround every rural home with people 100 deep?
So out of touch with reality.
I am unconcerned for myself. This small town, volunteer fire department and all, is on an island. True, we only have 8 cops. But you will need a boat or an airplane to get here. Since we have the occasional dangerous bear, wolf or moose wander into town, most of us are prepared for...wandering nuisances.
Having said that, unlike this little Alaska town, most rural communities are connected by road to large population centers. That would worry me.
These urbanites need to understand that rural people shoot things for fun and food. Rednecks will sit outside all day waiting to shoot a critter. Many have night-vision for varmint illimitation.
So if you’uns feel frogy enough to come out and depredate on us’uns it won’t be like your video games it will get real, real fast.

In the 1960s, some leftist radicals had the idea of taking over northern Arizona. What they didn’t count on was AZ having an estimated 1,000 abandoned mine shafts. Often invisible to the eye, covered with rotten boards, dust and even small plants, they look like natural ground until you step on them. Then they are instant death.
After a time, somebody would haul off their “abandoned” vehicle.
Bring it. Today or any other day. We will see who burns whom. It isn’t just a run across the front yard to get to public property and out of my castle.

Read the Bracken Anthologies. He has a really good short piece in there about defending the burbs, how to set up a rruck bed, even how to best handle a violent crowd.
Since the left associates guns with crime, they must think that because the rural areas have such low violent crime that the residents must not be armed.
