Didn’t have any problems with the police as long as I obeyed any of their orders relating to safety and or ongoing criminal investigations. I had a police-issued press card for years.

I don’t work in law enforcement but I assume they would always have someone not in uniform in the middle of most of the big protests just to monitor.
