Don’t sugar coat this story, shortages may just be sprinkled around now but but the economy is headed for the deep fryer.

The inventor of the munchkin was a genius. Instead of throwing the holes away, put them in a box of 24 and have the kids clamor for them so their parents have to buy them.

Well, actually they don't throw the holes away. They just get folded back into the dough for the next batch.

Another shortage that makes my eyes glaze. We better throw some more dough at it.

I saw this super cool product at a Home and Garden Show this spring that they were calling “The Knife”.

I do not need a dozen boys crowding the table wielding knives to cut the streudel. After Mass, we have a rush of a dozen 8-14 year old boys, followed by 8-12 year old girls walking quickly, but fast enough to get the pretty pink frosting doughnuts with the sprinkles.

I don't want to even THINK about the three year old who has chocolate frosting all over his face after he reaches his hand into the box for more.

And no, I do not have time before Mass to cut a gross of streudel.

President Brandon will just sign an executive order forcing Doughnut manufacturers to increase production. It’s the patriotic thing to do.

I really don’t care for donuts.....I do care about Joe being nuts though.

Have a fresh perked cup of Lifeboat Colombian Supremo with half and half or a fresh iced cold lemonade and commisserate with the rest of us who also care about Joe being nuts.

My hubby’s family’s church had a Ladies Aid.

They made everything, including doughnuts.

Does your church doesn’t have anything akin to that? If so, could they make the doughnuts?

I’m guessing many of the shortages are shortages of employees to get things prepared.

On another subject. I wanted to grill some steaks this weekend, piked out some reasonably priced cuts. I then needed charcoal.
I found out the store I shop has been out for weeks.

“12 dozen donuts”

Are you kidding me, you hoarder?

Think about the poor kIds in Africa that are forced to eat bugs after church.

Well, since this doesn’t have a Caucus tag, I’ll take the gloves off and come out swinging.

Presbyterians eat Krispy Kreme. We don’t have a Pope making us eat grocery store donuts.

Our church just opened up in December.

I wanted to launch it, because I wanted it done right. The temptation for the ladies’ groups is to get cheap coffee (Chase and Sanborn, Yuban, Hills Bros.), and to hand the doughnuts out one at a time by hand with a long line for the fear of some kid sneaking an extra doughnut. They never provide real half-and-half. Women want a social hour. Men want good food and drink.

Anyway, we don’t have a church hall, so I have to run out 20 pounds of ice for the lemonade and ice water. I have to make the 100 cup percolator coffee under the pavilion, etc. Sometimes ladies (and their families) volunteer to help with the cleanup, but the young women have small children to tend to for Mass, and the older ladies cannot deal with the five gallon water jugs and the 20 pounds of ice I have to bring out. The logistics are poor compared to most churches.

We are still getting volunteers, and I would be happy just to have someone help with the lemonade. (for that, I use 4c brand, resisting the temptation to use the so-called cheap Country Time that is ubiquitous.)

We also are getting our Knights of Columbus great expsure. The Knights are male-only. I don’t mind doing it. I mind not having doughnuts.

Safeway, BoSa Donuts, Dunkin Donuts.

Safeway is competitive costwise, but too far from both me and the church (Basha's was the choice at the other church location from the person who did it there). BoSa has better doughnuts and good selection, but costs double. Dunkin costs even more and the doughnuts are not what they used to be. There is a Food City nearby, but Hispanic pastries do not include doughnuts. They seem to like the "hard" pastries instead, We have Hispanics in our church, but I have had no requests for those types of pastries.
