Ukraine was a member of the original UN, a vassal state of the USSR. White Russia(Belarus) was a vassal state member as well.
I must have been asleep when Ukraine became a full-fledged independent nation. That would have been after the Soviet Union choked to death on its own filth.

I took a class on the Soviet Union back in College (mid 80s).
The thing I remember the most: professor was some ex-CIA guy.
Arthur Nicholson was recently murdered by a Soviet POS. Professor said in retaliation: “in my day, we’ve have dumped a body at checkpoint charlie”.
Nicholson is considered the “last casualty of the cold war”.
Well, a new cold war is shaping up. So maybe more casualties to come...
