Elite level?
Is that akin to the top floor of a septic tank?
Given today’s elites, perhaps it’s not even the top floor.

European history-very violent. The whole continent. This is no different.

After reading the article, it was a thorough and convincing analysis for me - one who knows only enough to make me look like a foolk. Truthfully, I’ll bet that the author could totally finish any west wing clown that attempted to come up with something better. So goes the collection of idiots in D.C.

“When Yanukovych—trying to engage in typically-sensible short-term politics-as-usual realpolitik—reneged on the EU association agreement, much of the country erupted in protest, ultimately escalating into outright revolution. Whether for good or ill, the Ukrainian people, perhaps even “consequences be damned,” made their choice: Europe.”

And there you have it - “the Ukrainian people, ...made their choice: Europe.”

An oddly schizophrenic article. I'm the one hand, it mentions in the 2014 referendum in Crimea as justifying Russia's takeover. On the other hand, he later talks about Russia's "little green men", but draws no link between the refendum and clear Russian interference. Doesn't even mention that there were questions about the legitimacy of that referendum.

Anyway, all the arguments about Ukraine's alleged corruption are irrelevant to me. The onlyfact I care about is that Russia openly invaded Ukraine. I couldn't care less about the rest of it because none of it justifies that invasion.

The article also makes it clear that it Russia needed Ukrainian resources. All the Nazi BS was just that.

Right. And the author apparently believes that "we need your resources" justifies invasion. It's ridiculous.

Russia should be considered part of just Asia now rather than part of Europe as well. Culturally, philosophically, it doesn't really have anything in common with Europe other than skin color. They are dime-store Mongols at this point.

Both can be true; they're not mutually exclusive.

Article nicely summed up what I’ve gathered from other long winded(and often emotional) articles plus everipedia’s Ukraine page.

Absolutely correct.

Oh please. If Putin cared about ordinary Russians he would not lie to his own troops and use them as cannon fodder and also rape the country financially with his own oligarch homies.

Russia's GDP per capita has increased in absolute terms since Putin first became the president in 2000. What "financial rape" are you talking about specifically?

Under the Russian definition, everyone who opposes Russian expansionism is a Nazi. It's the same schtick they ran against us for the entire Cold War.

If anyone east of the Urals has a sense of ethnic superiority/destiny/entitlement, it's the Russians.

You make the mistake of using an absolute number as some proof. That is a fail.

I promise to pay you $100 for some work. You do the work. I decide to renege and only pay you $10, pocketing $90 of your pay for me. You complain. I respond: “Hey your absolute wealth is increasing by $10. Why is there a problem?”.

What would the GDP per capita have been if Putin and his Oligarch friends weren’t robing the country blind?

You do realize that "per capita" is an average, right? Putin and his oligarchic buddies enriching themselves at the expense of others could still mean an increase in GDP per capita.

Did you feel the same way about our Invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq who had nothing to do with the Saudis who attacked America? Is invading another nation always wrong? How about helping a side in a Civil War?
