Finnish intelligence estimates that Russia has used 80 percent of their ground forces in Ukraine.

Their garrisons near the Finnish border are empty, and everyone is monitoring movement via satellite.

If the Russians ‘win’, it will be interesting to see how they hold it.

“If the Russians ‘win’”

How do the RuZZians win? Take Donbas and say We Win, War Over. Nope. Ukraine gets to decide when the war is over and Ukraine will continue to fight.

The goal here is to kill RuZZians by the thousands every month, year after year. Who controls which towns day to day doesn’t matter.

RuZZian KIA was 13K, MIA 7K after 2 months of fighting. Now at 3 months, KIA/MIA probably 25-30K. WIA 2x/3x, so 50-90K.

Total casualties 75-120K out of 200K initial force.

Just imagine casualties after 1 year, 2 years...

More on post 3.

“A former Royal Marine and son of an MP has been filmed leading a team of British and US veterans in a mission to destroy a Russian armoured vehicle during a fierce battle in Ukraine.

Ben Grant, 30 – the son of Helen Grant, Conservative MP for Maidstone and The Weald, in Kent – is among a platoon of foreign fighters supporting Ukraine’s efforts in the war against Russia.

i has verified footage that shows the squad of Western volunteers, made up of former special forces, preparing to mount their attack on a BTR – a Russian armoured vehicle – from a forest on the frontline in the north-east of the country.

It was filmed during a 15-hour operation on Thursday in which i understands that about eight Russian soldiers were killed, with a further 30 Russian troops killed in a firefight when the team of 13 US and British fighters later linked up with Ukrainian forces to storm a trench.

During the mission, one fighter emerges from the woodland and aims a shoulder-held Matador anti-tank missile at the BTR, which is seen in a clearing about 100 metres away.

Mr Grant, who spent more than five years as a commando in the Royal Marines, is heard shouting “shoot it now” and “mind the back blast”, before the missile is launched.”

———————————————————————————————————————
Edit. WiU Commenters Odds and Ends:
WiU Commenter 1:
(On Orc tactics): The defensive lines are most often not even stormed, simply put Russia use indirect fire supported by Orlan-10 and helicopters/Su-25s for a few days/week, send a recon unit forward, if they take fire, another few days of artillery, new recon, if no or very little opposition they advance and take the trenches with minimum if any combat. When they reach the trench they film the trenches filled with day old corpses. The places that have been very problematic for the Russians is forests and cities. Mostly because it allows the Ukrainians to move around without being found by drones, and artillery is not as effective there. When the Lyman area and Severodonetsk fall, there is no more forest, only steppe and cities all the way to the Dnieper, and no more pre-planed and built defenses.

WiU Commenter 2:
Several reports have recently suggested that there is a gigantic buildup and assembly of close to some 20,000 Russian regulars in the Izyum salient. This massive concentration is still bidding its time and is expected to be unleashed towards multiple directions after its flank including Svtilodarsk+Lyman area is cleared. Please help us to keep an update on this development.

———————————————————————————————————————
••Info tomorrow on comparison between Switchblades and Orc drones

———————————————————————————————————————
Summary: Ukrainian forces lost Lyman, villages Roty, Vidrodzhennya, Midna Ruda near Klynove.
Situation is extremely difficult for Ukrainian army in the Severodonetsk salient.

Key areas:
- Izyum bridgehead - no changes.
- Lyman bridgehead - was split into two halves (Lyman+Svyatohirsk), strong Russian troops captured Lyman.
- Popasna area: no changes.
- Svitlodarsk area: Russian troops advanced further north and captured villages Roty, Vidrodzhennya, Midna Ruda near Klynove.
- Donetsk West: no changes

1. Kharkiv: no changes, Ternova is captured by Russian forces, Rubizhne is in UA hands.
••Northern regions arty seems to be decreasing.

2. Izyum bridgehead:
It is extremely dangerous penetration by Russian troops that potentially could lead to large pocket for Ukrainian troops west of Donetsk. No changes today.
Forces identified:
••Orc: (12 Eng B), (24 sfB), (38), (15 / 2 mD), (21), (23), (39), (30), (7 TB)
••UA: (81), (93), (? / 25), (95), (9 / 3 / 79), (79)
••UA 79th retreated from Lyman by a kilometer or so under significant pressure including artillery and air. Will retreat to south side of the river.
••In next day or two, expect Orc 30th to clear the UA (9 / 3 / 79) on the north side of the river.
••Not a critical bridgehead and will be lost by UA as was a delaying tactic. Given the vast artillery of the Orcs, it is what it is.

3. Lyman bridgehead: split into two halves - Svyatohirsk and Lyman. Ukrainian troops lost Lyman.

4. Rubizhne: captured by Russian troops

5. Severodonetsk - slow squeeze of Ukrainian troops, main bridge connecting UA troops with the rest of UA is destroyed by RU artillery.
••UA in crisis mode with mixed units, but still holding.

6. Popasna area. No new Russian advances today.
••UA troops stretched.
••Orc artillery very strong in this area. Orlon drones are very effective in correcting fire also using more concentrated fire.
Forces identified:
••Orc: (BG 35th), (BG 76 AD), (57), (40 NB). Non-RGF: (Wagner Group), (4 / 2AK). BG=Battle Group: consolidated from other units, a mix, ~5000 troops and has high morale.
••UA (10th) spotted to the west. May be sent to reinforce.

7. Svtilodarsk area: Russian troops continued their advance north and captured villages Roty, Vidrodzhennya, Midna Ruda near Klynove.
••UA troops forced to pull back a long way.

••UA lost the large power generating station. Big loss for Ukrainian power grid. Will further hurt the economy (already in shambles).

••UA suffering very very high losses across the whole area from Severodonetsk/Popasna/Svtilodarsk due to Orc artillery superiority.

••UA loses per day are about +100 KIA, +300 WIA, + 50MIA-PW. All types of losses add up to ~500 a day. Paying this high price, the UA is buying time, hoping heavy weapons change situation, are not going to come in in quantities needed to help situation, in general. New green troops are made to stand alone, rather than mixed in with experienced troops (which weakens the front and makes for more casualties).

••Lots of mistakes from UA high command on how the army operates. To compensate, the UA needs quite a bit of heavy weapons. The correct way to fix the UA command situation is to get better internally

••Likely not going get more than a small amount of heavy western weapons, as Europeans are already complaining about their dwindling stockpiles of weapons an ammo. So UA needs to become much more efficient with quality, not quantity.

••UA received from Italy 20-30 155mm howitzers FM-70 not much better than Soviet counterparts, but helps add to UA’s artillery
https://www.military-today.com/artillery/fh_70.htm

••Caesar 155mm Artillery System is actually significantly better than Orc counterpart, but there are only 12 units.
The (French) Caesar artillery system is in Ukraine.
https://www.army-technology.com/projects/caesar/

8. West of Donetsk: Avidyivka and Maryinka. Never ending attempts of the Russian side to break-through there. New point of attack - Pisky. No changes today.

9. Vugledar is in Ukrainian hands. No changes today.

10. Velyka Novosilka - Gulyapole stretch of frontline. No changes.

11. Kherson bridgehead: no changes.

UA is suffering an estimates 500 casualties (of all sorts) a day - primarily due to overwhelming and superior Orc artillery.

I’m reading that the russians are firing 10-20 artillery rounds for every ukranian artillery round.

Might be better if the ukranians targeted Russian artillery rather than russian tanks.

Yep, UA needs to target RU artillery, but need longer range US weapons. I think such weapons are going to be approved soon.
